Dear all,

A huge well done to those who played in the concert of Haydn’s Creation with Silver Breves last weekend, it was a tiring day but I thought we performed extremely well! A note from Glenn the conductor:

Please pass on to all the Cobwebs my heartfelt thanks for their hard work at reading so much new music in such a limited time. We got there, I think. They look great in their waistcoats, too!

In this weeks Cobweb News:
– Beginners Group; we’re up and running!
– Hall 2 Concert at Sage Gateshead; space still available!
– Strauss Horn Concerto with Chris Griffiths
– Bartok Concerto for Orchestra with Mark Edwards
– Concerto Day 2017

Beginners Group; we’re up and running!

This is just a note to let you all know that our brand new Beginners group at Ludworth is up and running and is now an established part of our weekly activity. Anyone is still welcome to come along, even if you’re not a beginner but would like to go through works at a slower pace than usual, or if you’re wanting to practice in an orchestra on your second instrument – its perfect for you!

For more information, please see the group’s page on our website here: http://www.cobweborchestra.org.uk/groups/ludworth.php

If you’re not a performer, please do consider coming to support us, Rebecca really is quite amazing and rehearsals for the Dubois are going very well, don’t miss the chance to hear such a rarely played work! The concert is at 7.15pm on Sunday 13 November at Sage Gateshead, tickets and more information available at the website below:

**correction from last week’s Cobweb News, it is in fact Rebecca Mills who is the soloist, not Alice Jones, apologies for any confusion!**

Strauss Horn Concerto Study Day with Chris Griffiths
Sunday 20th November
Storey Park Community Centre, St. Marys Field,
Morpeth, NE61 2QF
2-6pm
http://www.cobweborchestra.org.uk/events/event.php?id=305

Join Chris Griffiths in a Study Day looking at two great works: Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 and Borodin Prince Igor Overture.

The Strauss Concerto no 1 for horn and orchestra was written by the composer, amazingly in his late teens, for his father, professional french horn player Franz Joseph.

Franz Strauss admired Mozart above all, detesting his own contemporary, Wagner. Richard Strauss was still under this classical influence of his father’s when he wrote the concerto.

As an extra piece to include in the study day, I thought that the Borodin Overture Prince Igor would be rather fun. It also features the 1st horn, in a 2nd subject melody of considerable virtuosity…

Members £9
Non Members £12

Enrolment form can be found here.

Bartok Concerto for Orchestra Study Day with Mark Edwards

Join conductor Mark Edwards for a chance to get to grips with one of the most exciting works in the 20th century repertoire! An afternoon of rehearsing followed by a presentation for friends and relatives at 6pm.

To join this one please sign up at Sage Gateshead Box Office on 0191 443 4661, or by clicking this link: http://sagegateshead.com/event/cobweb-orchestra42754/

Please do let me know that you’re coming though so we can be sure we have enough music!

This is our last study day of 2016 so don’t miss it!

Concerto Day 2017

We had a fantastic response to Andy’s note about the Concerto Day in 2017 and so we’ve fixed a programme already! We’ll confirm it soon into the new year but it’s a wide range of repertioire that involves everyone – so we are looking for a full orchestra to take part and support the soloists.

The date for the day is 4th March 2017 and it will take place near Dalston, so please do get it in your diaries!

That’s all for this week, good luck to those of you who are performing at Sage Gateshead this weekend; don’t forget to invite your friends/family!

Best wishes,
Lorna
