Liz Carlile - Administrator

I've played the viola since I was a child, but the role of orchestral administrator is a new one for me. Added to the challenge of a large garden and the fun of my noisy extended family and friends, my life is now a very busy one!

David Hutton - Newbiggin Group Leader

David has been singing since early childhood, and an enthusiastic Cobweb double-bass player for over 10 years. Starting at Annfield Plain as a rusty player, he has since taken up some of the additional challenges offered, particularly as an arranger, conductor and trainee Leader. When Derek Hobbs decided to leave the leadership of the Newbiggin group to someone else, David was ready, though alas it meant he could no longer play bass there too. In his other spare time he loves guitar and photography.

Clare Barker - Teesside Group Leader

Clare began to play the Piano, Eb Tenor Horn and later French Horn whilst still at school. She quickly learnt that ensemble playing was much more fun than just practising on her own, becoming a member of a variety of small groups and larger ensembles including the Durham Concert Band and Durham County Youth Orchestra (French Horn). She first encountered The Cobweb Orchestra when the Harelaw group were holding a concert at her younger sister’s school. She had a great time and found the group members very friendly and welcoming. After finishing her degree in Music with Education Studies at Cambridge University and completing a year of professional training in 2003, she returned home to find that she was missing the orchestras and music groups in which she had been involved whilst still at school and university. She remembered Cobwebs, gave it a try and, finding good company, satisfying music and lots of fun, decided to 'stick around'!

Having done a variety of Cobwebs conducting over the past couple of years with the ever-tolerant and supportive Guinea Pig Orchestra and occasional Harelaw group rehearsals, she joined the Leaders’ Group and was delighted to be given the opportunity to run first the Beginners’ Course in May 2008, and later the Teeside group from February 2009.

Clare also enjoys spending time with friends and family and, when she has the opportunity, visiting interesting places near to home.

Peter Wood - Dalston Group Leader

Peter played with the East Riding County Youth Orchestra (violin) and the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra (viola) but stopped playing regularly in his mid 20s as work took over. An invitation to a Cobweb event 8 years ago was the catalyst that relaunched his orchestral playing. As well as his activities with the Cobweb Orchestra, Peter also plays in other local orchestras and string quartets, including a home-grown one comprising his three children.
