|Date||Sun 18th Aug 2013 - Sun 25th Aug 2013|
|Venue||Il Grande Prato, Castelfiorentino, betwixt Pisa & Siena and Firenze|
My customary salutation to the many seasoned Cobwebisti who have previously answered the call to come and make merry in Tuscany. Make merry music, naturally, but generally make merry in the seductive surroundings of a converted farmstead atop a ridge overlooking the distant town of Castelfiorentino and the hills beyond. Olive groves, oak woodland, bee-eaters, buzzards, ploughed clods of ochre-rich Tuscan soil are some of the sights that greet the guests at Il Grande Prato as they step, blinking, into the sunlight after the trip from the airport. And then they seize upon the generous swimming pool, its azure sparkles glinting in the middle-distance…
“Great Scott!” I hear you exclaim, “do we really need this purple prose simply to tell us in such a long-winded manner that the Cobwebs Tuscany trip is on the calendar again, for August 2013”?
Ah, well, perhaps it helps set the scene?
Anyway, so that you might be able to manipulate the date of a forthcoming family wedding, or hiking trip to Nepal, you may wish to ring-fence the 7 days that are Sunday 18th – Sunday 25th August 2013, when we shall return to Tuscany for our 10th Anniversary trip. It seems extraordinary that it will be 10 years since our first foray there and perhaps evidence of the whimsical way in which we approached the trip is that we named the bank account opened to handle the funds “Tuscany Music 2003 Account”. Every trip has had a different mix of Cobwebbers (a tiny handful have been on every single trip so far) and every time it has been wonderful fun and completely unique. The chemical mix of all those different souls is quite fascinating and the end product is always a genuine and stimulating delight.
There will be an increase in costs for next year and negotiations are in-hand as I write, but they are modest and the first one since we first went, so we can’t really complain. The sweetener is the fact that the Euro has devalued quite a bit since last time and although over a year away, I would be inclined to suspect that it may continue to slide away further before improving again in 2-3 years time. So speaks a simple nurseryman, I hasten to add, not an economist.
No actual action is needed from anyone yet as this is simply a little flag-waving for the future happy event but, if you would like to know more, do e-mail any questions to me at: email@example.com If you already know that you are thinking of, or even absolutely definitely are, coming then there’s no harm in declaring this to me.
