|Event||Study Day: Strauss Horn Concerto no 1 and Borodin Prince Igor Overture with Chris Griffiths|
|Venue||Storey Park Community Centre,
St. Marys Field,
|Description||Join Chris Griffiths in a Study Day looking at two great works: Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 and Borodin Prince Igor Overture
Times are 2-6pm
The Strauss Concerto no 1 for horn and orchestra was written by the composer, amazingly in his late teens, for his father, professional french horn player Franz Joseph.
Franz Strauss admired Mozart above all, detesting his own contemporary, Wagner. Richard Strauss was still under this classical influence of his father's when he wrote the concerto.
As an extra piece to include in the study day, I thought that the Borodin Overture Prince Igor would be rather fun. It also features the 1st horn, in a 2nd subject melody of considerable virtuosity...
