|Description||Haydn Symphonies Project
The 3rd Haydn Symphonies Project session will be on Saturday 28 January 2017 at St Oswin’s Church Hall in Wylam from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
Members £8, Non Members £11
In our journey, Haydn is still employed by Count Morzin and we will be looking at the last of the symphonies believed to have been written for Count Morzin’s orchestra before it was disbanded.
1757/60 - Symphony Hob No. 20, Strings Oboes Bassoons Horns Trumpets Timps
1761 - Symphony Hob No. 3, Strings Oboes Bassoons Horns
1760/61 - Symphony Hob No. 32, Strings Oboes Bassoons Horns Trumpets Timps
1761 - Symphony Hob No. 15, Strings Oboes Bassoons Horns
1761/62 - Symphony Hob No. 33, Strings Oboes Bassoons Horns Trumpets Timps
3 of these symphonies have parts for trumpets and timps (2) and it would be great to have these additional instruments at our next session.
Count Morzin did employ 2 bassoonists and it is presumed that even though there were no specific parts written for them in these symphonies they would have played alongside cellos and double bass in the orchestra.
As a compromise between trying to retain an authentic orchestra, and making the sessions available to more players to participate the following additional players are welcome to participate in this session:-
Flutes – to double oboe parts
Clarinets - to play oboe parts (in C) but no transposed parts will be provided.
Future sessions will become progressively more inclusive.
The viola and cello parts in the trio in the 2nd movement of symphony No. 15 are written for solo players. There is a score on IMSLP. Let me know if you would like to be a soloist and I will reserve on a first come first served basis.
Please complete your booking forms as soon as possible so that I can ensure we have sufficient music on the day.
