Event A Month of Symphonies - Brahms Symphony No. 2 with Patrick Burnett
Venue Summerhill Pavillion,
Winchester Terrace,
Newcastle upon Tyne
Description Patrick is our current York group conductor and he says: Join us in playing Brahms' Symphony No. 2 in D, about which Brahms jokingly wrote to his publisher: '[It] is so melancholy you will not be able to bear it. I have never written anything so sad, and the score must come out in mourning.' Of course, this particular symphony is practically brimming with optimism! After the brooding First Symphony in C minor this piece presents more of a light-hearted, pastoral romp, which I am excited to be sharing with you as part of the Month of Symphonies.
